English: Alfred J. Cammeyer (1840–1909), footwear designer active in New York City. Born in 1840, Cammeyer started in the business at the age of 15, working as a clerk in a shoe store. As he learned the business, he saved enough money to open a store of his own at Bleecker and Carmine Streets in 1876. In 1892, he opened the world’s largest shoe store at 650 Sixth Avenue on the historic Ladies Mile District, The Cammeyer Building.
