The BAM Peter Jay Sharp Building is the main bulding of the Brooklyn Academy of Music. It was built in 1908 and was designed by Henry Beaumont Herts of Herts & Tallant in the Italian Renaissance style, with new canopies added in 2008 designed by Hugh Hardy/H3 Hardy Collaboration. (Sources: AIA Guide to NYC (5th ed.) and Guide to NYC Landmarks (4th ed.)) The building contains the Howard Gilman Opera House (2,109 seats), the Rose Cinemas (formerly the Carey Playhouse), the LePercq Space (a multi-functional facility) and the Hillman Attic Studio (a small rehearsal and performance space), as well as offices and gallery space.
