English: SS Ballarat was built for P&O in 1911 to expand its Blue Anchor Line subsidiary. She was requisitioned as a troop ship in the First World War. In 1917 a German submarine torpedoed her in the English Channel. All her passengers and crew were rescued and she was taken in tow, but she sank the next day. Sister ships Beltana (1911), Benalla (1912), Berrima (1913) and Borda (1914) survived the War. All were sold to Japanese owners in 1930–31 for scrap.
