Built in 1940–1941, this Gothic Revival-style building at 312 Wisconsin Avenue in Madison, Wisconsin, houses the congregation of Bethel Lutheran Church, replacing an earlier building located on Hamilton Street. The edifice features a Latin cross layout with a fieldstone exterior, a red shingle gabled roof, gothic arched lancet stained glass windows, buttresses, an oriel window on the Wisconsin Avenue facade, a bell tower with buttresses at the corners, a crenellated parapet, and large gothic arched louver openings, a rear wing with buttresses, a crenellated parapet, pinnacles, and tall windows, and a contemporary addition on the southwest end of the building. The church today takes up most of its block, and has grown substantially from its roots as a small Norwegian Lutheran Church founded in 1853.
