English: Bethlehem-Church (Kiel-Friedrichsort) Built in 1875 as a Prussian garrison church, this wood-covered timber frame building was soon popularly known as the "wooden church". It was a garrison church of the navy until 1945, serving both Protestants and Catholics as a sanctuary. Since 1947 it has been used by the newly founded Evangelical-Lutheran Congregation of Friedrichsort (today: Pries-Friedrichsort), although it remained federal property until 1999. The church is the only surviving wooden ecclesiastical structure from the period after 1870 in Schleswig-Holstein, and it was therefore landmarked in 1988. In 1987 the church was named "Bethlehem Church" because of the date of its dedication: Christmas 1875. The building was acquired by the "Interessengemeinschaft Bethlehem-Kirche e.V." in 1999. This public interest group makes the building available for church services and cultural events.
