English: D407 was delivered to British Rail in April 1968 and renumbered 50007 in February 1974. It was named after the warship Hercules in April 1978 but became Sir Edward Elgar in February 1984, being painted in a heritage livery to celebrate the Great Western Railway 150th anniversary of 1985. It was refurbished in 1983 and withdrawn in March 1994 after which it was preserved but is certified for main line operation. It has carried both names at different times since being preserved.
