English: Burke River (Queensland) The Burke River is an ephemeral, desert river in central western Queensland. It is part of the Lake Eyre basin. The river was named in memory of explorer Robert O'Hara Burke of the Burke and Wills expedition. The Burke River rises in the Selwyn Range north of Boulia. It flows south past Boulia until it discharges into the Georgina River. As one of the Channel Country rivers it has multiple anabranches on its broad floodplain. Iconic river red gums (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) and coolabah (Eucalyptus coolabah) line the banks, with coolabah also found on the floodplain.
