English: There are numerous canals in Yangzhou. The rectangular historic city center (formerly, the walled city) is surrounded by the Huchenghe 护城河 (north), the Old Grand Canal 古大运河 (east and south) and the Erdaohe 二道河 (west); the circle is closed in the southwest by the Hehuachi 荷花池 (Lotus Flower Pond) and the Erdaogou 二道沟. The Xiaoqinhuaihe 小秦淮河 runs north-south across the old city center. The Caohe 漕河 runs parallel to the Huchenghe, north of it.
