Charles Septimus Adye, the Wiltshire county architect, lived for some years at Westbury House, Bradford-on-Avon. In 1881 he was charged with the restoration of St Laurence Church, Bradford-on-Avon, but installed large buttresses which were controversial, being considered unsightly. They have since been replaced by smaller ones. (Source: Bradford on Avon Museum) However his work on the church was also described as a "complete and judicious restoration". (Source: Canon W. H.
