Category:Coats of arms of Prince-Archbishops, Prince-Bishops, Prince-Abbots

Within the Holy Roman Empire, a prince-bishop is a bishop who is also the monarch of some secular principality. If the episcopal see is an archbishopric, the correct term is prince-archbishop; the equivalent in the monastic clergy is prince-abbot. With regard to heraldic ornaments, these dignitaries displayed all insignia of their ecclesiastical rank with the addition of the heraldic ornaments due to a prince of the Holy Roman Empire. Sometimes a sword (signifying temporal jurisdiction) was also added.
