Quarterly of 8: 1: Wittelsbach, Duchy of Bavaria; 2: Duchy of Jülich/Gülich; 3: Duchy of Kleve/Cleve: 4: Duchy of Berg; 5: County of Veldenz; 6: County of Mark; 7: County of Ravensberg; 8: County of Moers/Mörs.
Palatinate-Neuburg (German: Herzogtum Pfalz-Neuburg) was a territory of the Holy Roman Empire, founded in 1505 by a branch of the House of Wittelsbach. Its capital was Neuburg an der Donau. After the so-called Kölner Spruch (Verdict of Cologne) the duchy was created from the territories north of the Danube for w:Otto Henry, Elector Palatine and w:Philip, Count Palatine, the sons of Ruprecht of the Palatinate. In 1556 Otto Henry became the Elector Palatine and the next year ceded his duchy (the so-called Young Palatinate) to w:Wolfgang, Count Palatine of Zweibrücken. The eldest son of Wolfgang, Philipp Louis, founded in 1569 the elder line of Palatine Zweibrücken-Neuburg, from which the Palatine Sulzbach lineage was separated in 1614.
