The Continental Hotel on 8th Street and Chestnut Street was built from 1857 to 1860 and demolished in 1924 to make way for the Benjamin Franklin Hotel (The Franklin Residences), built the following year. The Continental Hotel was built in the Italianate style and designed by architect John McArthur Jr.
