English: The Cooly early ecclesiastical site in the townland of Cooly (also named Cooley) close to Moville on the peninsula Inishowen in County Donegal, Ireland, is assumed to be a monastic foundation of St. Patrick. Among the surviving remains are an undecorated high cross, a grave yard with the ruins of two churches (north and south church), a mortuary (known as ‘skull house’) and numerous cross slabs. The site has a modern enclosing which was built c. 1700 and inscribed grave markers from the 18th and 19th century. See p. 399 in Gwynn and Hadcock: Medieval Religious Houses Ireland, entry 1543 on p. 261 in Brian Lacy: Archaeological Survey of County Donegal, ISBN 0-9508407-0-X, p. 49–52 in Sean Beattie: Ancient Monuments of Inishowen, North Donegal, ISBN 0-9520481-1-6, the leaflet Cooley Cross + Graveyard Moville, Co. Donegal by the Cooley Committee, and the corresponding SMR and NIAH records.
