Category:Dachau in Nazi photographs

The existence of concentration camps was not kept secret by the Nazis, who used these camps extensively from the earliest days of Nazi rule. However, the Nazis did endeavor to keep secret the existence of the extermination camps which came later and whose sole purpose was the eradication of large numbers of people. Large numbers of propaganda photographs showing harsh but (apparently) not inhumane treatment were used by the Nazi regime to show it was getting tough on the people the regime identified as responsible for Germany's problems, including "shirkers", Free Masons, various "anti-social" elements, and above all Jews.

Images recently released to Wiki Commons from the Bundesarchiv and placed in this image category show how the Nazis wished the concentration camps to be perceived.
