Category:Depictions of the Christian Trinity with three faces on one head (vultus trifrons)

Depictions of three faces on one head occurred in some mainly 16th-century and 17th-century Catholic depictions of the Christian Trinity etc; however, this type of iconography currently isn't really endorsed or fully accepted by any mainstream Christian denomination.

Italian Wikipedia has the following to say about such Christian "Vultus Trifrons" depictions: Proprio questa sospetta contaminazione con il paganesimo fece sì che tali immagini della Trinità venissero guardate con sospetto dalla Chiesa postdridentina ed esplicitamente condannate da papa Urbano VIII nel 1628. (See http://www.piazzascala.altervista.org/pagineinterne/messa/cerbero.htm )

See also the article "The Gran Poder and the Reconquest of La Paz" by David M. Guss in The Journal of Latin American Anthropology for an English account of the 1628 papal condemnation, and some other relevant info (such as that in 1904, Catholic authorities in Lima Peru declared a three-faces-on-one-head painting to be imagen contra rito, meaning that it couldn't be used in any official public Catholic ceremonies).
