Designed by Arthur Bodley for lawyer and capitalist John Leary and his wife Eliza Ferry Leary, daughter of Elisha P. Ferry, Washington's first governor. Leary died shortly after construction of the home began in 1905 bur his widow continued to live in the home for years.
