DoC: This is a standard 20-bunk hut in the Kapiti region.
The hut was one of the first purpose built tramping huts in the country,
and is the oldest surviving recreational hut in the Tararua Ranges.
It was built by the Tararua Tramping Club which is still maintaining it.
Normally is no problem with cell phone coverage, it's better upwards from the hut.
