- 2007 (LI 1867) (by carving out from the Ga West District)
- February 2008: changing of the name to Weija Municipal District, although in official documents appears still the name Ga South Municipal District (2015)
- 2012 (LI 2135) (carving out of the Ga Central District from the Ga South Municipal District)
  • Population of the Ga South Municipal District: 485,643 natural persons (census 2010, counting together with the later Ga Central District)
  • Administrative capital of the Ga South Municipal District: Mallam (officially) or Weija (seat of the Assembly)
