A gait is one of several manners of locomotion used by animals and specified according to the alternative sequences in which legs are moved, the manner in which mechanical advantage is derived by varying uses of the same basic anatomical structures. Examples of gait in bipeds include walking, skipping, and running, and in quadrupeds walking, trotting, and galloping.
Variations or limitations in gait can indicate disease and disorder states.
