The GCB Bank Ltd. (former Ghana Commercial Bank) is arisen in 1957 from the 1953 re-founded Bank of the Gold Coast, which with the obtaining of the independence of Ghana was splitted into the Bank of Ghana (BoG) as futural central bank and the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) as bank for the futural commercial banking business of enterprises and private persons. The GCB is a state-owned financial institution since her founding. In 2011, the shareholding of the state of Ghana accounted for 51,17% (SSNIT: 29,81%; MoFEP: 21,36%). In 2013, the bank was renamed as GCB Bank Ltd..
