Giovanni Skudieri (1817-1851) was an architect invited from Odessa by Vorontsov, designed the buildings in Tbilisi. Vorontsov entrusted Skudieri with the construction management and appointed him the Tbilisi Chief Architect. Skudieri enjoyed profound esteem at the Governor-General’s court. He died at an early age on July 5, 1851 when the roof of the "military cathedral" under construction collapsed.
