Italiano: Nelle rappresentazioni artistiche antiche bisogna distinguere il banchetto (dove si mangiava) dal simposio (dove si beveva solamente). A differenza del mondo Etrusco e di quello Romano, il Simposio nell'antica Grecia era un ambito prettamente maschile al quale le donne non partecipavano. Si possono tuttavia trovare singole donne che partecipano al simposio greco quando si tratta di prostitute (hetère) che intrattengono gli uomini suonando qualche strumento musicale, oppure impegnate in atteggiamenti affettuosi o in veri e propri rapporti sessuali con qualche convitato. Qualche volta le hetère al simposio vengono rappresentate anche coinvolte nel gioco del kottabos oppure intente ad assistere un commensale che sta vomitando.
English: In ancient artistic representations we have to distinguish between the banquet (where people ate) and the symposium (where people drank only). Unlike the Etruscan and Roman world, the Symposium in ancient Greece was a male-dominated field in which women did not participate. However we may find single women who participate at the Greek symposium in the case of prostitutes (hetère) who entertain men by playing a musical instrument, or engaged with some guest in affectionate attitudes or veritable sexual intercourse. Sometimes hetère represented at the symposium are also involved in the game of kottabos or intent to assist a commensal who is vomiting.
