Category:History of Northern Ireland by former district

From 1972 until 2015, there were 26 districts within Northern Ireland. These replaced the older historical subdivisions, the counties. In 2015 these 26 districts were combined into the eleven current districts of Northern Ireland, each of them with their own local government. The counties and county boroughs, in turn, which existed from 1921 to 1972, continue to exist for the purposes of lieutenancy and shrievalty.
