Infocomm Media Development Authority, or for short, IMDA, is a regulator that rates films, TV programs, and video games in Singapore.

There are 7 age ratings used for films and TV programs (3 that are advisory, 3 that are restricted but indicate that the content has been approved for release in Singapore, and 1 that indicate that the content has not been approved for release in Singapore):

  • G (General): General audiences. Suitable for all ages. Also used for video games, but no icon for video games. The logo represents the white text "G" in a green (black if monochrome) circle.
  • PG (Parental Guidance): All ages admitted, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children. Parental guidance is recommended. Television stations must show the logo for PG-rated TV programs. However, there are no broadcast time restrictions. Not used for video games. The logo represents the white text "PG" in a green (black if monochrome) circle.
  • PG13 (Parental Guidance For Children Under 13): All ages admitted, but suitable for persons aged 13 years and over. Parental guidance is strongly recommended for children aged under 13 years. Advertisements for PG13 rated films cannot be shown where a child may be inadvertently exposed to. TV programs with this rating may air on free-to-air TV only between 10pm and 6am, the same broadcast TV time restrictions apply to broadcasting M18-rated TV programs on pay TV. However, similar to the lower age ratings, there are no broadcast time restrictions on pay TV. Not used for video games. The logo represents the white text "PG" at the top, underneath it, the text "13", both in a green (black if monochrome) circle.
  • NC16 (No Children Under 16): Restricted to persons aged 16 years and over. Video-on-demand and over-the-top services are required to have a "parental lock" feature so it blocks NC16 and M18 rated films and TV programs without entering a PIN (it should not be featured to block R21-rated films and TV programs, since those services are required to have a separate PIN lock for R21-rated films and TV programs by default). NC16-rated TV programs may broadcast on pay TV, but not on free-to-air TV. However, similar to the lower age ratings, there are no restrictions for airing those programs on pay TV. Photo identification is required before viewing NC16-rated films in a cinema. Not used for video games. The logo represents the white text "NC16" in an orange (black if monochrome) rectangle.
  • M18 (Mature 18): Restricted to persons aged 18 years and over. TV programs with this rating may only be broadcast on pay TV from 10pm to 6am, the same broadcast TV time restrictions apply to airing PG13-rated TV programs on free-to-air TV. Other restrictions for the NC16 rating apply to this rating. Also used for video games. The logo represents the white text "M18" in an orange (black if monochrome) rectangle.
  • R21 (Restricted 21): Restricted to persons aged 21 years and over. TV programs with this rating are not allowed to broadcast on pay TV networks, and video-on-demand and over-the-top services are required to have a separate PIN lock for R21-rated films and TV programs by default. Even if this is the highest age rating that indicates the content is being approved for release in Singapore, there is still a wide range of material that is cut from R21-rated films. Restricted to licensed adult cinemas and adult shops. Non-urban cinemas are not allowed to show R21-rated films at any time. R21-rated films are excluded from home video release. Not used for video games. The logo represents the white text "R21" in an orange (black if monochrome) rectangle.
  • NAR (Not Approved for Release): Not approved for release in Singapore. Cannot be legally distributed exhibited, sold, rented, purchased, supplied, stocked, imported, owned, or possessed anywhere in Singapore. There is no icon. Also used for video games. Many films that the IMDA refused to classify were restricted because of concerns that they might "undermine the public order". For example, the film To Singapore, With Love, which documented former political dissidents in Singapore, was refused classification, as the MDA believed it was one-sided and "undermined national security". There are 4 age ratings used for video games (2 that are advisory, 1 that are restricted but indicate that the content has been approved for release in Singapore, and 1 that indicate that the content has not been approved for release in Singapore):

  • G (General): Suitable for all ages. They are not required to show any icon for G-rated video games. Also used for films and TV programs.
  • ADV16 (Advisory 16): All ages allowed, but suitable for persons aged 16 years and over. Unlike NC16, this is not legally restricted, and is an advisory rating. However, they are required to show this icon for ADV16-rated video games. However, retail stores are not required to have mandatory identification or age checks for customers. Not used for films and TV programs, video game exclusive. The logo represents the text "ADV" at the top, underneath it the text "16", both in a black circle.
  • M18 (Mature 18): Restricted to persons aged 18 years and over. Customers who attempt to purchase such games must present photo identification or age checks. This is the only restricted rating that indicates the content is approved for release in Singapore for video games. Also used for films and TV programs. The logo represents the white text "M18" in an orange (black if monochrome) rectangle.
  • NAR (Not Approved for Release): Not approved for release in Singapore. Cannot be legally distributed exhibited, sold, rented, purchased, supplied, stocked, imported, owned, or possessed anywhere in Singapore. There is no icon. Also used for films and TV programs.

Advisory ratings had their logo with the white text name of the rating at the center (with the exception of the PG13 and ADV16 ratings which had the first part of the overall text "PG" and "ADV" at the top, and underneath it, the second part of the overall text "13" and '16" respectively) at a green (exceptions apply to monochrome versions and the ADV16 age rating, which is black) circle. Restricted ratings had their logo with the white text name of the rating at the center at an orange (exceptions apply to monochrome versions, which is black) rectangle. There is no logo for the age rating indicates that the work has been refused classification (Not Approved for Release, or for short, NAR).
