Français : L'Égypte et la Syrie mamlukes - Egypte XIV-XV ième siècle : l'eau dans les demeures malukes. Le cartel indique :Le climat chaud et sec de l'Egypte rend indispensable le rafraichissement de la pièce de réception (qa'a) des belles demeures. Son architecture climatique comporte un haut plafond avec une prise au vent dominant, en saillie sur le toit. L'air qu'elle apporte rafraichit la pièce, se charge de l'humidité de la fontaine centrale et circule dans l'ensemble de l'espace. L'eau ruisselle sur le plan incliné de la fontaine murale. Ses reliefs sculptés brisent l'onde, produisant un bruit agréable.

Copy of the cartel : In Egypt's hot dry climate, it was vital that the reception room (qa'a) of prestigious dwellings be kept cold. The room had a high ceiling fitted with a prevailing wind-catcher shaft on the roof. The ventilation it afforded cooled the room, as the air absorbed moisture from the central fountain to circulate throughout the space. Water ran down the sloping side of the wall fountain; its carved relief broke up the flow, creating a pleasant sound.
