Detective Joseph Patrick McGinn (December 27, 1872 - October 3, 1920) of the Philadelphia Police Department was shot to death on October 3, 1920 in South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during a raid on a gambling den on Passyunk Avenue. The gambling den by coincidence was being held up by 10 masked gunmen at the same time. Detective McGinn, was on vacation, but had volunteered to come back on duty for this assignment. Detective McGinn's killer, Christopher Maurano (1889-1922) of Hoboken, New Jersey, was executed in the electric chair on February 22, 1922 at Moyamensing Prison.
