Also known as demi-landau carriages
A landaulet carriage body is the rear half of a landau body with one forward-facing bench seat covered by a folding roof or head. In front in place of the other half of the landau body is a roofed and glazed wooden framework which folds down or may be entirely removed. Some landaulets are light enough to be drawn by one horse.
English: A small landau; a coupé with a folding top like a landau. Also called demi-landau. (source-Oxford English Dictionary)
- 1771 Brit. Patent 997 The fore part of the head of a landawlet is constructed with a hinge [etc.].
- 1794 W. Felton Treat. Carriages I. 39 Landau or landaulet bodies. These kinds of bodies differ nothing in shape from those last mentioned. The landau is the coach, the landaulet the chariot form.
