"Libaña Baba pronounced (Li-ba-ya Ba-ba) means "Grandfather’s Grandchildren." The group consists of three brothers; Jeffrey, Kelsie and Dayton Bernardez plus cousin Greg Palacio. Our first influence came from our grandfather, Cyril Antonio and other master drummers of Dangriga, Belize. After migrating to Los Angeles, California in the late seventies, we felt the need to preserve our indigenous Garifuna culture. Libaya Baba has retained the traditional format of 'call and response' in songs to uphold the memory of our ancestors! Our music is accompanied by a pair of Sisira (maracas), one Primero (small wooden snare drum), two Segundas (mid size & large wooden bass drums) Conch and Turtle shells. The genre of music we play is varied, namely, Hüngü-hüngü, Paranda, Punta, Kulióu (slower form of punta), Wanaragua, Hupi malad, Warini (prelude to Wanaragua), Gunjéi, 2 for shilling, Chumba and Chárikanári. To date, we have intrigued audiences locally and throughout the U.S. "
