Category:Lux (ship, 1859)

  • Scant and uncertain information before 1920
  • Supposedly was built in 1859 at Orlogsværftet for the Danish Navy, probably a gunboat, iron-hulled
  • Supposedly converted to a tanker after military service
  • 1919 registered with the name SCHRÖDERSEE for unknown, possibly German, owner
  • 111 brt, 47 nrt, 115 t.dw. 118.2 x 17.1 x 8.0 at the time
  • 1920 sold to Østlandske Petroleumscompagni (ØPC), Kristiania, and renamed LUX
  • 1924 got new engines
  • 10 October 1927 caught fire at dock at Steilene in Oslofjord, towed away from dock while on fire and sank between Steilene and Fagerstrand
  • There was an iron-hulled Danish gunboat built in 1859 at Orlogsværftet named Schrødersee (da:Kanonbåden Schrødersee), a Category:Thura class gunboat, and the hull looks similar though funnel changed places, so very possibly they are the same ship if significantly reconfigured at some point. The Danish Schrødersee was converted to a survey vessel in 1885, then out of military service in 1894.
