English: The Lyric Theatre in New Orleans (at the downtown lake corner of Iberville & Burgundy Streets in the French Quarter) was constructed about 1895, originally as "Wenger's Variety Hall". It was renamed "The Lyric" in 1904, as a vaudeville and motion picture theater. In 1919 it was renovated and changed to a venue featuring shows and music by African American performers, catering mostly to African American patrons in the era of legally enforced racial segregation. (They had some special midnight weekend shows for white audiences who wished to see popular Black acts). It closed in 1927 and the building demolished the following year.
