Main zhamatun, Geghard (1283)

"Passing the north door of the "gavit" one enters a second Zamatoun scarsely illuminated by a narrow window. Probably this was used as the burial place of the Proshian family. Corresponding to the axis on the far wall there is a small niche divided by two arches (probably the sarcofagos was placed in this niche). Above the niche, there is a vigorous plastic representation with figures drawn up on various orders; an ox’s head to the sides are two lions, below an eagle which holds a sheep in its claws. Probably this represents the coat-of-arms of the nobile Proshian family. From the "zamatoun" one has access to the church of the domed chambers" Geghard, page 8
