Matao was a low priced, entry level musical instrument brand existed during 1967–1983, and exclusively sold by the Music West franchise chain. Matao guitars were made in Japan and Korea Matao by the Hoshino factory.
Matao also made other string instruments including bass guitars, ukeleles, and banjos, and various band instruments for school orchestras including drums, brasses (sax, trumpet and trombone), strings (violin, cello) and woodwinds, (clarinet, flute).
