- The McDonald ranch house and ranch were the Manhattan Project location for the final assembly of the prototype Fat Man plutonium bomb on July 13, 1945, the first tested nuclear weapon in the world, detonated at the Trinity test on July 16, 1945.
- On the present day White Sands Missile Range, it is part of the National Historic Landmark Trinity test site, which is also on the National Register of Historic Places in Doña Ana County, New Mexico.
