This category is for early television equipment in which the scene is scanned by a mechanical system such as a spinning disk with holes in it or a rotating mirror to create the video signal, and a similar mechanical system is used to display the image in the receiver. This "mechanical-scan" technology was used in the first experimental television systems, from around 1924 until they were replaced by modern "electronic scan" television technology after World War 2.
