  • Scale: the length of the horizontal black line at the top of the small white paper species/QR-code label in each image is 36 mm according to a Naturalis mollusc expert (August 6, 2019). This statement supersedes previous definitions for the scale given in the metadata of photographs in this category.
The format of the black line can vary, see the three examples at the right (white horizontal space to the left or right of the line on the label, or no white space with the line running over the full width of the label). On the labels for Polyplacophora (or chitons, commons category), like Lorica volvox RMNH.MOL.115106 shown at the right, the length of the black line on the label is unknown (Naturalis mollusc expert). Searching for "Polyplacophora RMNH" I find 465 photographs of this class in the present RMNH uploads, and 152 in the ZMA Naturalis mollusc uploads ("Polyplacophora ZMA", RMNH = Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, ZMA = Zoölogisch Museum Amsterdam).
A calculation using the highest resolution (1.920 × 1.278 pixels) of the shown picture of Partulina variabilis RMNH.MOL.103961 4 and the given length of the black line of 36 mm gives a scaling factor for that picture of 0.24, so the maximum projected real length and width of the mollusc there are 1.8 and 0.9 cm, respectively (Note from the uploader). • Please don't delete or request deletion of seemingly "empty" images, which can contain only species labels: this type of image is valuable for taxonomists and historians of science. Experts at Naturalis (Leiden, the Netherlands) have told me this when i uploaded these seemingly "empty" images of plants and here molluscs. For instance a change in the species name is shown on the labels. Thank you, Hansmuller (talk) 05:20, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
