Texte sur le pourtour de la plaque métallique portant l'œuvre (en français et en espagnol) : « Ce monument a été érigé par la Ville de Genève en hommage aux combattantes et combattants des brigades internationales qui se sont battus pour la défense de la liberté et de la démocratie en Espagne (1936-1938) ». Une petite plaque porte un texte de Dolores Ibárruri, prononcé lors de la revue d'adieu aux brigadistes à Barcelone.
