English: Nadwiślańskie Jednostki Wojskowe were Polish military units subordinated to the Ministry of Interior, performing tasks associated with protecting governmental buildings, performing military guard of honor and ceremonial guard, and also protecting Polish diplomatic headquarters in foreign countries. Soldiers and officers were wearing characteristic special uniforms. Most of the military units were located in Warsaw, but some also in other parts of the country. The units had changed their official name and had been restructured quite often during their existence (1944–2001). The abbreviations of their last two full names are: NJW MSW and NJW MSWiA. In English studies and books their name is translated in different ways as for example: Vistula Military Units or Vistula Military Formation or Nadwiślańskie Military Units. The military units ended upon liquidation in 2001.
