L'hôpital de Beaune, bâti à partir de 1443, est la grande fondation de Nicolas Rolin. Les malades pouvaient apercevoir ce portrait depuis leur lit et prier pour l'âme de Rolin. Il est vétu ici avec richesse mais sobritété : l'accent est mis sur ses armoiries, les clés d'or sur fond bleu, visibles de loin (copie du cartel exposition Louvre 2024).

English: Nicolas Rolin Kneeeling in Prayer, Panel from the left wing of the altar pîece of the Last Judgment, originally placed on the altar in the hospice chapel. The Hospice de Beaune, whose construction began in 1443, was Nicolas Rolin's major charitable foundation. Its patients could see this portrait from their beds and pray for Rolin's soul. Rolin is richly but simply dressed here, the emphasis is on his coat of arms, the golden keys in a blue foeld, visible from a distance (copy from the cartel - Louvre 2024).
