English: Oscar Parkes was a surgeon in the Royal Navy who took many photographs during his naval career in the first half of the 20th century including World War I. From 1918 to 1935 he was editor/co-editor of Jane's Fighting Ships. He retired from the Navy in 1920 and kept working as a surgeon and in general practise until 1957. In 1957 he published British Battleships, which has become a standard reference work.
