Packard Eight means either a passenger car model or a Packard automobile fitted with a eight cylinder engine.

As a model designation, Eight was used in 1925 (2-36 and 2-43), 1926 (2-36 and 2-43), 1927 (3-36 and 3-43) 1928 (4-43). These were truly luxurious cars, marking the best Packard could offer. They succeeded, and were based on, the 1924 Packard Single Eight 1-36 and 1-43. Designations give the series (first digit), and the wheelbase (136, and 143, respectively) In 1928 only, this range was split in Standard Eight and Custom Eight, both only with 143 in. wheelbase. The only difference was in coachwork and trim. These Standard Eights were less elaborately trimmed, and custom coachwork was restricted to Custom Eights.

In 1929, a smaller eight replaced the six, which made new designations necessary. Standard Eight now referred to the new smaller model, and came as the 526 and 533. The larger cars became the Custom Eight (640 and Custom Eight Deluxe (640 and 645), fitting previous year's role. A 145 in. chassis was added for the formal trade. Also, Packard switched to a new numbering system that referred to production time instead model line. Therefore, all 1929 models have a 5th series first digit.

Inconsequence is a part of Packard's numbering system. In some later years, Eight is used as a designation like Standard Eight, and sometimes both were used. Sometimes, Packard used the designation Deluxe Eight for the most expensive models. In an attempt to tighten the model range, Packard dropped the line completely, and 1938-1939 renamed the One-Twenty the Eight (Similar with Six and One-Ten) This is confusing, as these "Eight" share all components with the One Twenty built before and after.

The first Clipper (Model 1950) in 1941 was based on the One Twenty. When Clipper Sixes were offered after the war it became the Clipper Eight. In 1948, Packard returned to Six (export and taxi, only), Eight, Super Eight and Custom Eight. Better trim led to a Eight Deluxe and a Super Eight Deluxe.
