Category:Petrochelidon ariel in 7th Brigade Park, Chermside

The Fairy martin, (Petrochelidon ariel), is far more common in 7th Brigade Park, Chermside, than its relative the Tree martin. Both species form mixed flocks that hawk for insects over open grassy areas, usually at higher levels than the Welcome swallow. The Fairy martin nests colonially under bridges and culverts in 7th Brigade Park. It can be easily identified by its distinctive 'creaking' call while on the wing as much as by its rufous head.
