Picturesque America was a lavishly illustrated work on America published by D. Appleton & Co. in 1872 (Vol. I) and 1874 (Vol. II). Some of the work first appeared in the same publisher's Appleton's Journal. It was edited by William Cullen Bryant and its essays and engravings are considered to have had a large influence on the growth of tourism, conservation, and historic preservation in the United States.

Artists included J.F. Kensett, W.S. Haseltine, J.D. Smillie, J.W. Casilear, Thomas Moran, A.C. Warren, Harry Fenn, David Johnson, Granville Perkins, Douglas Woodward, F.O.C. Darley, A.F. Bellows, J.M. Hart, C.C. Griswold, Worthington Whittredge, C.G. Rosenberg, W.L. Sheppard, H.D. Martin, A.R. Waud, William Hart, R.S. Gifford, Jules Tavernier, W.H. Gibson, and Thomas Cole. Their sketches and watercolors were engraved by Robert Hinshelwood, E.P. Brandard, S.V. Hunt, William Wellstood, William Chapin, and H.B. Hall.
