English: The Regent Theatre in 39 Cathedral Square, Christchurch, was the first building erected in the south-west quadrant of the Square. Opened in 1905, it became known as the Royal Exchange after its anchor tenant. It was demolished in 2011 after suffering earthquake damage. It was registered with the NZHPT as a Category I heritage building, with the register number 1918.
