English: This street is named to commemorate the Battle of La Lys which took place on the 9 April 1918 in Flanders on the western front. 20,000 Portuguese soldiers took part in the battle and as a result of the German offensive, 327 officers and 7,098 Portuguese soldiers Portuguese Expeditionary Corps were killed, about 35% of its effective fighting capacity.
