Category:S. H. and Francis Carpenter House

Built in 1870, this Italianate-style house at 1 West Gilman Street in Madison, Wisconsin, was constructed for S. H. and Francis Carpenter, and was later modified with multiple additions and converted into an apartment building. The house is clad in buff brick with a hipped roof on the original section, four-over-four windows, stone lintels and sills, oriel windows on the side facade, a two-story front addition in the middle of the front facade with arched bays, a gabled rear ell, and an entrance door off of Gilman Street with an arched top and sidelights.

The house is a contributing structure in the Mansion Hill Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
