English: The Santa Fe Grain Elevator, also known as the Damen Silos, is an abandoned grain elevator on the Lower West Side of Chicago, on the Elevator Slip of the West Fork South Branch Chicago River between Damen Avenue and Santa Fe Slip; its official address is 2860 S. Wood St. Its predecessor 10-story grain elevators were closer to Wood St.; exploded in September 1905; new design by John Metcalf built to the west, near S. Damen Ave., in 1906, with 35 silos; acquired by the State of Illinois in 1928 and leased to Stratton Grain Company; exploded in December 1932; rebuilt; exploded in 1977 and shut down; still state property as of 2013.
