Category:School Street Power Plant

English: Brookfield Renewable Energy's School Street Power Plant in Cohoes, New York, is a hydroelectric plant powered by Cohoes Falls. It was originally established in 1915-1920 when its first General Electric turbines were installed, and provided power for the Harmony Mills, one of the world's largest cotton mills complexes, which opened in 1872. Water from the Mohawk River to power the facility's five turbines (originally three, the fourth was added in 1921) is diverted into a power canal about a mile upstream from the plant.
