This site, located north of Greendale RC Catholic Church and cemetery, consists of a sandstone obelisk approximately 1.3x1.3m and 4m high within a cast iron picket fence on a sandstone base constructed of two courses of ashlar masonry and approximately 63cm high. The obelisk itself is constructed of six courses of ashlar masonry, including the uppermost pyramidical stone, and is placed on a square stone pedestal with moulded cornice and plinth.

A slate plaque inset into the east side of the pedestal bears the following inscription in finely incised upper case Roman lettering "In Memory of Thomas Shadforth. Formerly Lieut Colonel of H M 57th Regt Who Departed this life 4th August 1862 aged 90 years and of Frances His Wife who died at Ravenwood 6th October 1850 Aged 79 Years". The plaque is also signed by the stonemason, "Patten, Sydney". A metal plaque has been more recently added to the north side of the monument, explaining its recent history.

The plaque on the east side of the monument has become faded. That on the north remains in good condition and is legible, it reads:

The Shadforth family were prominent pioneer settlers in the area. Thomas Shadforth, a Waterloo Veteran settled the west bank of the Nepean River at "Ravenswood", near Wallacia in 1831. This property still exists although the house itself is now derelict. The monument originally marked the family burials in the former St Mark's Church Cemetery at Greendale. Following private purchase of the church and subsequent conversion of the cemetery, the monument was transferred to its present location, c.200m north of St Marks in 1980. During this time a second plaque was added to the monument to explains its historic associations to the cemetery.
