Category:Silver Star (Wiltshire bus company)

English: Silver Star was the brand name of a bus company based in Porton Camp near Salisbury, Wiltshire. It began running local bus services in 1923 as the Shergold and White Ltd company (named after the two founders, Eddie Shergold and Ben White). Reflecting the name, some of the buses operated with bare polished aluminium bodies. It later expanded into express coach services, reaching as far away as London, Glasgow and Swansea. In November 1957 the company name changed to Silver Star Motor Services Ltd. Following the death of Eddie Shergold in 1962, Ben White announced his intention to retire; the company ceased operations on 4 June 1963. Services were taken over by Wilts & Dorset, with the fleet sold off to various operators. Further information can be found at www.countrybus.co.uk/silverstar.htm
