English: Sunamono ("sand thing") is a form of classical rikka. A stock made out of wood or bundled hay called kabudachi is placed in the middle of the vase and fixed with sand. The flowers and branches are then affixed in small bronze vessels that are inserted and affixed into the kabudachi. The sunamono is normally wider than high and was placed under the staggered shelves in a tokonoma alcove. This form emerged during the Azuchi–Momoyama period (1568–1600).
